Hearing Cassettes Won't Listen's "Echos"

There's a part of Cassettes Won't Listen's new video for "Echos" when Jason Drake's face is surrounded by a sea of black. It is a little TOO reminiscent of Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares to You" during these moments--though they do try to mix it up with an eventual sea of faces. Otherwise, it's pretty great. Check it out above.

Cerebral Ballzy play spin the bottle

The new Cerebral Ballzy video for "Junky for Her" starts out with a simpel game of Spin the Bottle (thankfully it's NOT the members of the band playing), but it soon gets bloody as soon as the pizza is delivered. Check it out above (and be sure to check out the band's new album, which is in stores now).

New releases for the week of August 2, 2011

Here's hoping that by the time this is actually posted that the politicians in Washington have figured out the debt ceiling thing so that we can all go out and buy records. Assuming this happens and the cash in our pockets doesn't mysteriously disintegrate before tomorrow morning, there's plenty to look forward to. Greyson Chance (who by all rights should really just be called Justin Beiber Part 2) is set to release Hold on 'Til the Night (pictured), Fountains of Wayne return with a new album on Yep Roc, and Ra Ra Riot's Mathieu Santos puts out the solo effort Massachusetts 2010. A complete list of new releases for the week is below, and for future weeks be sure to check out our upcoming releases section.

Yelle returns to the states this fall

The always fashionable French electro-pop act Yelle will be returning to the United States this fall for a few shows. This won't be her first time in America to support her latest album album, Safari Disco Club, which was released earlier this year. We can only assume the first time around was a rousing success, and this set of shows (which includes a December 8th show in New York City at Webster Hall and December 9th performance in Brooklyn at the Music Hall of Williamsburg) will top that trip. Full schedule below.

Yelle tour dates:
11/10 - Los Angeles, CA @ Wiltern
11/12 - San Francisco, CA @ Mezzanine
12/02 - Miami, FL @ Fillmore
12/03 - Orlando, FL @ Social/Plaza
12/04 - Jacksonville, FL @ Jack Rabbits
12/05 - Atlanta, GA @ Loft
12/07 - Baltimore, MD @ Sonar
12/08 - New York, NY @ Webster Hall
12/09 - Brooklyn, NY @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
12/10 - Philadelphia, PA @ Transit

They Might Be Giants (and puppet show) performed at Williamsburg Waterfront on Friday

They Might Be Giants | Williamsburg Waterfront | July 29, 2011

They Might Be Giants at Williamsburg Waterfront, July 29, 2011
It's a little boggling how They Might Be Giants hadn't played a show at East River State Park until Friday night. The Brooklyn duo are the original Williamsburg hipsters, forging out the territory in the mid-80s long before the recent crop of indie rockers. The show last week marked the band reclaiming their proper spot in the hood as headliners at the outdoor location. Plenty of new material from Join Us was included in the set alongside old favorites like "Birdhouse in Your Soul," "Fingertips," "Don't Let's Start," and "Ana Ng." "Particle Man" was strangely absent, but two puppet avatars were on hand to sing "Spoiler Alert" (the first live performance according to the band). Photos from the set are below.

To Do List: Monday, August 1, 2011

Recommended Show:
MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2011
BEN LEE

@ CITY WINERY
155 Varick St
New York, NY 10013
$18, 8PM

Tonight's recommended show was a real toss-up between Dan Deacon at Le Poisson Rouge and Ben Lee at City Winery. Lee ultimately won out, as he doesn't quite make the rounds to tour the City as often as he used to. However, considering the amazing list of things going on tonight, simply going out makes you a winner.

Rev Vince Anderson @ Union Pool
Mother Mother @ Knitting Factory
Lykke Li @ Central Park Summerstage
Kottonmouth Kings @ Highline Ballroom
Surfer Blood & Grand Rapids @ Mercury Lounge
So Percussion & Dan Deacon @ Le Poisson Rouge
The Raveonettes & Eternal Summers @ Maxwell's
Robbers on High Street, Only Son, & Blackbells @ Brooklyn Bowl
Illuminator, Matty Fasano, Friend Roulette, & Jared Van Fleet @ Pianos
