New releases for the week of December 7, 2010

If you thought Thanksgiving provided a good reason for great new releases, you haven't seen anything yet. The first full week of December is giving us a load of not only some fantastic records from major labels, but it's also delivering a nice array of indie albums--not to mention a few off the wall abnormalities. The pack of artists is led by T.I., who releases the eagerly awaited No Mercy (pictured to the left). The only way this Atlanta rapper's new album will surprise us is if it manages to NOT jump to the top of the charts. Also on the majors, almost American Idol Adam Lambert has an acoustic album out, Duffy tries to gain traction with her sophomore release, and Daft Punk delivers a rather disappointing soundtrack to the new Tron Legacy film.

The indie side of things is pretty cool this week as well. Diane Birch and The Phenomenal Handclap Band have worked on a collaborative release for S-Curve Records, Dntel has got a double batch of After Parties for Sub Pop, and the synth-driven Freezepop have got a new one as well.

However, it's the weird records where things really get interesting this week. Jimmy McMillan (you know, this guy) physically releases his album that was out a few weeks ago digitally. It's the same situation with the compilation album from Einst├╝rzende Neubauten (pictured to the right), who could also claim to hold the "weird" title--although for entirely different reasons. And let's not forget Back to the Future the Ride with an EP of material named, of all things, Tron Legacy.

And don't forget that you can check out a list of upcoming releases long into the future in our upcoming releases section.
