Northside Festival - The End (A recap of Day 4)

Northside Festival | Day 4 | June 14, 2009

With the final day of the first annual Northside Festival coming to a close, I'm pretty exhausted. There was a certain wind-down feeling to Sunday's events--even at the crazier shows. Yeah, a few of the annoying hiccups were back, but at this point they didn't seem to matter as much as they did the first day.

It was tough dragging myself out of bed this morning, but I managed to get to Studio B in time for Phil and the Osophers at Studio B, who were opening for The Dodos. I didn't actually manage to catch a good photo of The Dodos. By the time the headlining act went on, the crowd had gotten substantially larger. The heat emanating from the masses actually made the air conditioned performance space hotter than the open-air bar upstairs. I did manage to catch a shot of the other opener Laura Gibson.

I think Laura started a bit of a theme for the evening, as the next few bands I ended up seeing would all be female singer-songwriters. I moved from Studio B onto Spike Hill and saw Kerry Kennedy...

Okay, now this is where things get a little messy again. I trekked off from Spike Hill to Bruar Falls for the Social Registry showcase with Mira Billotte; however, the show had been canceled. A few friends had also planned to see the show, so we ended up hanging out there for a while before I bounced over to Public Assembly.

The Drums dropping off the Public Assembly bill screwed up the order in the front room. I really didn't quite know who the band was playing in the front room when I arrived (pictured above). However, Bamboo Shoots were playing in the back.

Shortly after in the front, The Wild Yaks had set up in an odd corner of the room. It sort of sounded like shit, but I got to give the makeshift nature of it some props.

After The Wild Yaks finished, a sole woman set up in the front of the room and made noise. My best guess is that this was Drawlings. The audience seemed almost afraid of her and many retreated to the back to watch Wakey! Wakey! set up instead. It was interesting, but for some reason it seemed like the perfect act to end the weekend with--though I would've liked to see Wakey! Wakey! again.
