Album Review: Starfucker - Jupiter

Clocking in at 26 minutes with a slim eight songs, it's tough to classify Starfucker's new release as an album or a long EP. A remix of "Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second" and a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" push the record into that non-album territory, while solid new songs like "Medicine" and the title track "Jupiter" give a good argument that this could be a legit second album.

The label's website describes it as a "mini-album," and that's probably a fitting term. There's enough material here to give listeners a good introduction to this band. The band's full-length debut last year somehow passed me by, but Jupiter makes me wish it hadn't.

I can understand why this band garnered its blog buzz last year. The band have an electro-pop appeal with a lo-fi indie quality. Yeah, I know that's throwing a lot of cliche words around, but Starfucker actually make it all work. If they didn't have an R-rated name they could probably even get some radio play...well, if radio wasn't an annoying corporate monopoly.

Starfucker's Jupiter will be released by Badman Recording Company on May 5, but you can totally pre-order it from the label's website right now.
