Album Review: Boom Box Repair Kit - My Dear Antagonist

Boom Box Repair Kit - My Dear Antagonist (Kemada)

So, The End of Irony received our first unsolicited CD the other day! That CD is Boom Box Repair Kit's My Dear Antagonist, which was apparently released March 3 on Kemada Records. Despite the band hailing from New York City, I have never heard of them before, which may have a lot to do with the sheer numbers of bands in this city. It's also possible that Boom Box Repair Kit simply run a very different scene. While there's some clear punk rock influence on this disc, the band also borrows heavily from other genres, most notably the reggaeton sound that blasts out of car across New York neighborhoods. It's hard to say how much appeal an act that mixes these two genres will have, but it's nice to hear someone give it a try. The album is not without it's dud tracks as well. I barely made it beyond the first track, which seemed to have a slow tempo drag, awkward vocal harmonies, and somewhat sloppy production.
